"If Men Are Like Buses, How do I Catch One?"
Hello Ladies and Sister's in Christ. I hope you're as excited as I am to begin this fellowship of fabulous females encouraging, uplifting, supporting and enlightening one another in our walk through life while enjoying wonderfully written often humorous books.
As stated in our flyers this book club will be meeting once a month; on the last Sunday of every month; at the lounge in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Wayne, New Jersey, on Ratzer Road from 10:00 to 11:30 AM.
We will enjoy a light breakfast and a lively discussion of the books we'll be reading each month. Participation in these chats is encouraged but not mandatory; no one's going to pick on you so you could sit back and be blessed by the discussions and only jump in when you're so moved.
To answer some questions that have arisen I offer the following Q & A:
Q Do you have to be a Christian or a member of the Wayne SDA to participate?
A No, we are encouraging women from all walks of lifefrom different socio, economic and religious backgrounds to enrich our discussions
Q How much does it cost to join?
A We are asking for a $10.00 dollar donation to offset the cost of the books, which are all over that price. However, we are also offering this hope instilling forum to some of our "sisters" from two local shelters at no cost to them; so if periodically you can and want to give a little more to help us reach out to those in need it would be a great blessing, but again not an obligation.
Q What types of books will we be reading?
A We will be reading a wonderfully diversified collection of Christian books written mostly by female authors addressing every issue from enriching our self-esteem to overcoming divorce and death and successfully managing our time and finances.
Q How are the books chosen and by whom?
A The books are chosen based on the following criteria: they address current issues facing today's woman, they are insightful and thought provoking, they are lighthearted and often humorous (because let's face it we can always use a good laugh, chuckle or at the very least a good smile), they are all short (because we know how busy life can be and we really want you to get through the book and not fake it at the breakfast meeting), they are scripturally sound (in other words they cite or support Biblical teachings which offer hope, healing and happiness). With that being said the first five books have been chosen but we will take suggestions for the rest. Please see Nayla, Elizabeth or Marie (all from the Wayne SDA Church), or myself, Edee.
Q The first book is called "If Men Are Like Buses, How Do I Catch One" is it only for single gals looking for a man?
A No, the very catchy, provocative title by the book's talented and very humorous author, Michelle McKinney Hammond is for women in all stages of the game, single, married, separated, divorced, widowed, not married-not looking etcetera. Without giving too much away I will tell you that this book, if you heed its Biblically based advice, helps to make you a better woman which will in turn helps improve your relationships and your life in general.
Q Do I have to register to be a part of this club or can I just show up for the meetings?
A Yes, you do have to sign up no later than the third Saturday of every month so we can make sure to have a book for you to enjoy with the rest of us.
Q When does the book club begin?
A Our first meeting will be on Sunday February 24th; we are asking that you give yourself plenty of time so you can be there on time because we will begin promptly at 10:00AM and wouldn't want you to miss anything.
Q Do I have to post on what I read on a weekly basis?
A No, you can post when you want, what you want as long as it pertains to the book or something related to the topics therein. You can ask questions, offer answers, give advice, share similar experiences to those depicted in the books or you can simply take in the blogs from the other ladies and grow from them, whatever makes you most comfortable (remember this is supposed to be a very pleasant, hopefully life enriching experience for all involved).
